Dustin Ardine è un attore poliedrico, capace di farsi amare dal proprio pubblico e di vincere una moltitudine di premi internazionali. Adesso ha compiuto il grande passo, ovvero dirigere un film interpretato da se stesso. Non è facile, coordinare ed eseguire le azioni ed avere una visione d'insieme di ciò che sta accadendo sul set.
Ashes è un cortometraggio di oltre 20 minuti che narra di un futuro grigio dell'umanità, distrutta dalle proprie azioni. Dustin è il protagonista principale dell'avventura, che potrebbe diventare presto una web series di successo, che vaga nei luoghi desolati di una civiltà ormai perduta. Non ci saranno effetti speciali di città futuristiche ma solo luoghi deserti e distruzione, un modo evocativo per immergere lo spettatore in un futuro che poi, per quel che vediamo oggi, potrebbe essere verosimile.
I personaggi sono ben sviluppati ed è stato interessante studiare l'evoluzione dei rapporti che intercorrono tra di loro. Ottima la scelta del cast femminile, anche se avrei preferito un trucco differente. Mancano alcune ambientazioni che avrebbero reso il cortometraggio un vero e proprio spettacolo apocalittico, ma sono certo che Dustin Ardine saprà rifarsi in fretta.
L'insieme narrativo funziona piuttosto bene anche se si evidenziano alcune "pecche" di montaggio durante alcune scene. Peccati di poco conto, irrilevanti. Il nocciolo del film è l'incipit per una serie interessante che vede, ancora una volta, l'umanità a dover rinascere da zero. Nell'ultimo anno Netflix ci ha regalato una serie di film post apocalittici (o quasi) tra cui Birds Box con la bellissima Sandra Bullock. Dustin Ardine potrebbe entrare con il suo Ashes in una trilogia sperimentale, un modo misto tra l'azione di Mad Max e il mistero di Birds Box. Non resta che augurargli il meglio ad un attore e regista del suo calibro.

Dustin Ardine is a multifaceted actor, able to make himself loved by his audience and win a multitude of international awards. Now he has taken the big step, that is directing a film interpreted by himself. It is not easy, to coordinate and execute the actions and to have an overview of what is happening on the set.
Ashes is a short film of over 20 minutes that tells of a gray future of humanity, destroyed by its actions. Dustin is the main protagonist of the adventure, which could soon become a successful web series, wandering in the desolate places of a lost civilization. There will be no special effects of futuristic cities but only deserted places and destruction, an evocative way to immerse the viewer in a future that then, for what we see today, could be likely.
The characters are well developed and it was interesting to study the evolution of the relationships that exist between them. Excellent choice of the female cast, although I would have preferred a different trick. There are a few settings that would have made the short film a real apocalyptic spectacle, but I am sure that Dustin Ardine will be able to redo quickly.
The narrative set works quite well even if some "mounting flaws" are highlighted during some scenes. Sins of little importance, irrelevant. The core of the film is the beginning of an interesting series that sees, once again, humanity to have to be reborn from scratch. In the last year Netflix has given us a series of post apocalyptic (or almost) movies including Birds Box with the beautiful Sandra Bullock.
Dustin Ardine could enter with his Ashes in an experimental trilogy, a mixed way between the action of Mad Max and the mystery of Birds Box. All that remains is to wish him the best of an actor and director of his caliber.
