Direttamente dalla Grecia, a due passi dal MEDFF arriva un prodotto cinematografico firmato da una validissima regista Georgia Chioni: The Riddle. Quando c'è qualità siamo felici di recensire i film, perchè la grande distribuzione, il Mainstream, ha bisogno di confrontarsi con le piccole produzioni capaci di innovare e regalare grandi spunti di riflessione.
Trama
Anna Pavlidou è una famosa psichiatra, che insieme al suo associato studia le paure, fobie e panico delle persone comuni. Un giorno, si sveglia nel bagno di un appartamento sconosciuto. Scopre di essere stata avvelenata e di dover risolvere una serie di indovinelli per trovare l'antidoto nascosto negli appartamenti e salvare se stessa.
Fin qui dobbiamo ammettere che la trama risultava avvincente e lo stesso film si lascia guardare fino alla fine senza problemi. Se dovessi scindere il ruolo di Georgia Chioni tra regista e sceneggiatrice propenderei per assegnarle un punto a favore di quest'ultimo ruolo.
A livello di scrittura troviamo tantissime buone idee, una trama avvincente e sofisticata che consente allo spettatore di seguire il film senza annoiarsi. Lo stesso non si può affermare per il lato prettamente tecnico, la regia è carente sotto molti aspetti rendendolo quasi come un film "amatoriale".
Gli attori impersonificano bene i loro ruoli, tutti sulla sufficienza anche se non posso dire che mi hanno letteralmente fatto impazzire. Le scene al buio non rendono a sufficienza e in alta risoluzione peggiorano il risultato.
Le location non godono del mio apprezzamento statiche, poco affini al plot desiderato. Tuttavia sono convinto che Georgia Chioni farà successo come regista poichè riesce a fornire un'atmosfera che rende credibile ogni suo lavoro. Brava!
Nel complesso un buon film ultra low budget, difficile fare di meglio con circa 800 euro.

When there is quality we are happy to review the films, because the big distribution, the Mainstream, needs to deal with small productions able to innovate and give great food for thought.
Plot
Anna Pavlidou is a famous psychiatrist who, together with her partner, studies the fears, phobias and panic of ordinary people. One day, he wakes up in the bathroom of an unfamiliar apartment. He discovers that he has been poisoned and has to solve a series of riddles to find the hidden antidote in the apartments and save itself.
So far we have to admit that the plot was compelling and the film itself lets itself be watched until the end without problems. If I had to split the role of Georgia Chioni between director and screenwriter I would like to give it a point in favor of this last role.
At the writing level we find many good ideas, a compelling and sophisticated plot that allows the viewer to follow the film without getting bored. The same can not be said for the purely technical side, the direction is lacking in many ways making it almost like an "amateur" movie.
The actors embody their roles well, all on the sufficiency even if I can not say that they literally drove me crazy. The scenes in the dark do not make enough and in high resolution the result gets worse.
The locations do not enjoy my static appreciation, not very similar to the desired plot. However, I am convinced that Georgia Chioni will succeed as a director because he manages to provide an atmosphere that makes every job credible. Brava!
Overall a good movie ultra low budget, hard to do better with about 800 euros.
